ABOUT the ARTIST
Margaret Bayalis began painting at an early age and was attracted to the human figure as a subject. She received
a B.A. degree in French from Montclair State University in 1971. After moving to Delaware in 1973, she studied
graphic design/illustration at the University of DE. and spent thirteen years as the director of publications at
Wesley College in Dover, DE. Her artistic skills were further employed as a courtroom artist and in freelance
illustration work. Margaret brings these experiences into her paintings with a sharp eye for composition, color and
the use of people as subjects.
Over the years, she explored the use of various media including pastels, colored pencil and watercolors eventually settling on her preferred medium
of oil paint. The use of oils enabled her to create rich, luminous color giving greater vibrancy to her figurative work. She found critical acclaim and
collectors for these works throughout the northeast and exhibited works at galleries in Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, Delaware, including the
Delaware Art Museum.
In 2002, Margaret moved to St. Petersburg Fl. where she now maintains a studio. Working as a full-time artist allows Bayalis to be fully immersed in
her exploration of the figure as a subject in her studio as well as doing direct observation painting en plein air. Noted for her rich palette and
painterly style, Margaret has received numerous awards and critical recognition for her paintings which have been exhibited throughout Florida and
the northeast in galleries and museums. Her work has also been selected for inclusion in national and international juried shows. Margaret also
teaches her painting techniques in Florida and the Northeast where her workshops are popular and well attended.
